Diaspora and Transnationalism: Concepts, Theories and

In the long term domestic social movements from different countries become aware of each other and form transnational social movements. Tarrow raises important issues regarding the functioning of TAN. With the internet, phones, and fast travel, we can build relationships and networks in new ways - breaking through the barriers of national boundaries. This development of relationships and their influence despite national borders is known as transnationalism, a social phenomenon that we will be focusing on throughout a four part series. Furthermore, within an age of mobility, transnationalism can offer new insights on the importance of global citizenship. In doing so, it provokes readers to consider how transnationalism can move citizenship education practices beyond political and geographic boundaries to theory building.
